I've somehow managed to avoid every single Smurfs movie. Not deliberately; I just never cared enough to watch. But this time around, I'm actually excited, and it's mainly because Rihanna is in it. I've been a fan forever, and honestly, I've been hooked on her animation voice work since the movie Home. She absolutely crushed it as Gratuity in that movie.
So when I heard she's part of The Smurfs Movie (2025), it was an instant yes for me. The storyline follows Papa Smurf getting kidnapped by the usual villains, Razamel and Gargamel, and Smurfette leads the crew on a wild rescue mission that involves venturing into the real world. They link up with new friends, face new challenges, and basically have to figure out what defines their destiny while saving the universe.
It's not just Rihanna that grabbed my attention; the entire cast is full of familiar, A-list voices that instantly feel comforting. Sometimes you just need a fun, feel-good story with characters you can root for and voices you enjoy hearing. As for the storyline itself, it sounds pretty decent, and I believe it's a good one for kids to enjoy.
Maybe it's time to finally give the Smurfs a chance. If nothing else, Rihanna makes it worth a try.
