Lately, one show has been taking the top spot on Netflix's trending list in Kenya - Fake Profile. While I haven't had the chance to sit down and watch it yet (it's definitely on my list!), the short snippet Netflix gives us is enough to get anyone intrigued. From what I've seen, it promises a thrilling blend of twists, tension, and juicy drama - everything you'd expect from a show that keeps audiences glued to the screen.
The premise revolves around Camila, a woman looking for love, meets Fernando on a dating app, and he's everything she's ever dreamed of - perfect, charming, and attentive. But as their relationship deepens, Camila uncovers a shocking truth: Fernando's entire identity is a lie. What follows is a dangerous journey of deception as she tries to unravel the mystery of his life, only to find herself entangled in a dangerous world she never expected.
I've always been skeptical about dating apps. The idea of falling in love with someone you've never actually met in person, relying solely on their words and carefully curated online personality, has always seemed naive to me. How can you trust what someone says when you've never even heard their voice or seen their real face? It's a recipe for disaster in my eyes.
That said, Fake Profile does intrigue me. In today's world, where social media profiles often paint an unrealistic version of reality, the show seems like it could tackle the complexities of online relationships and the blurry line between truth and deception. While it might just be another story of love gone wrong, the drama, suspense, and danger it promises might make it stand out.
Although IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes have rated the show somewhat lowly with 5.7/10 and 62% respectively, I'm not deterred. The idea alone has me curious, and I'll definitely be trying it out soon.
